"You Can Lead a Horse to Water," an 18" x 24" pastel on Ampersand Pastelbord, is my first foray into equine painting. I was captivated by the backlighting of this group of horses photographed near Kalispell, MT. I pushed the contrast of darks and lights in the piece, as well as the colors reflected off the water and rocks to the foreground.
